Down Hall Hotel

Beautiful place to stay with stunning building and grounds. Bedroom was clean, spacious and quiet. Breakfast was great along with service.

I was attending a wedding talking place at the hotel. Everything worked well. The service and food throughout was excellent, and the room well appointed.

Firstly the hotel was fantastic, lovely couples spa, the wet spa was great and padel tennis on site was great to play. Brava victor. I will share an entertaining anecdote. In room 109 the “reception” button on the phone actually dial another room. My fiancée rang “reception” and had a 5 min conversation with another French guest and his wife about how they were late for their spa session and how we (reception) we insisting that they play padel. We laughed about it jn the spa 2 hours later having identified each other. Don’t trust the phones!!!

Excellent stay. Staff are so friendly & they make you feel so welcome. The hotel is stunning. I had a peaceful nights sleep in a very comfy bed & lovely pillows. Lovely garden facing room with natural sunlight light. So lovely seeing the natural wildlife in the woodland. Highly recommend this lovely hotel. Thank you.

My friend and I went for the afternoon tea at down hall and it was fabulous. Brilliant service and yummy food with a wonderful waitress Jane who explained the history of Down Hall to us and made us feel special and utterly looked after. I have recommended it to everyone I have spoken to as it was a delighted afternoon. We are wanting to come back for the feast as when we were there Jane said it was fabulous. So we will be back

Me and my partner stayed here and it was amazing. Swift check in, Sheldon at reception is lovely, very kind and helpful. The room we stayed in was beautiful, complimentary coffee, tea, water, shower essentials etc. you have everything you need. No matter what you enjoy there’s facilities for everyone to use. Plenty of walking trails and options for sports like badminton, tennis, football, a gym. There’s a trim trail and play area for kids. A spa, plenty of choices for food. The garden room was great, it has the more expensive menu out of the restaurants at the hotel. If you like fine dining, steak, seafood, lamb dishes then I’d recommend this restaurant. The fox bar and terrace was incredible. The service was impeccable, food was high quality and quick. We were served by Niamh B who is very professional, helpful and kind. If you prefer burgers, pizzas, fish and chips, pasta then this restaurant would probably be best for you. We went to the Eden spa twice and both times it was remarkable. The wet spa includes a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, outside lounge area as well as a locker with robes, slipper and towels. For 2 hours it is £30pp which I think is more than reasonable. Both times we had Samantha helping us who is so kind-hearted asking us how we were finding our stay so far, telling us of other places to go around the hotel etc. The breakfast is nice with a good selections to choose from, full English, cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries. The only thing I would add is more options of eggs instead of only scrambled. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, there’s so much to do and see and it was such a lovely stay throughout our time there.

The best afternoon tea in England! Delicious dishes, great collection of teas, unlimited refills, stunning building. Beautiful gardens to walk around in. A true experience. Special thanks to Jane, who is a very friendly host and an expert in tea knowledge.

We stayed at Down Hall in the beginning of July 2024 to celebrate a very special occasion and we thought that we book an extra special expensive place for that but we should have stuck with our normal treats with Wowcher deals as any of those that we have experienced have been much better than staying at Down Hall, I'm afraid. The main reception check in felt very rushed and impersonal. The lady talked so fast here is this and here is that- that I wasn't able to process any information she gave me. As soon as we had checked in and walked up the stairs, we also saw TWO BUCKETS where the water was dripping into from the ceiling!!!! Yes, really! I was absolutely appalled that they charge £355 for a room and a tiny spa package (2hrs with only a 25 min massage) and they have buckets in the corridors that we had to squeeze pass (hazard signs all around it)! I'm afraid the rooms and the facilities look NOTHING like they do on the website. We had the tiniest of rooms, the bed was so small (just a simple double) and so short that my feet nearly went over the edge of the bed and I am only 5ft 6 tall. There was absolutely no space at all to walk around the bed to the other side as there was a dressing table opposite the bed and the gap was so small that the chair could not even been pulled out fully and no one other than a very small child would be able to sit on it and fit between the bed and the table. The lamp shades on both sides of the bed were stained and dirty! The Spa facilities are super small and we felt very rushed by the receptionist. There was 5 minutes left after our spa for our massage appointment and we were mindful of it and just dressing to get ready for it, and the receptionist came to the changing room to tell us to make sure we get all of our stuff out of our lockers, because our appointment is starting in 5 minutes. There was no swimming pool in the spa! Just 2 saunas (steam and dry heat) and a jaquzzi. I am not a fussy person at all and I am used to very simple things, but the water when it wasn't bubbly, had clearly visible million white dead skin cells swimming in it!!!! When I saw that grossness, I got out of it as fast as I could. Oh, and as one night with a spa and a massage cost us a whopping £355, then I would expect at least decent clean facilities with space to walk around the bed at least but this was a complete dissappointment, I'm afraid. Everything is very very dated in the rooms, and I understand it's an old manor house but I mean the furniture is looking very poor, wobbly and dated and not like a fancy antique at all. And the tiles on the bathroom floor are so slippery that when I went to the toilet with completely dry bare feet, I had a very nasty slip in there! The breakfast had some choice but no fried eggs for full English breakfast. They had scrambled eggs, that were GREY and the pieces were so big and lumpy that I initially didn't even understand are those potatoes or what that is. I was actually brav

Absolutely fabulous hotel. Exactly what you would expect from a 4* luxury country house hotel. The staff are so friendly, polite and helpful from check in onwards; the decor is stunning and really adds to the feeling of being cocooned in luxurious, sumptuous surroundings (there are even ‘real’ plants!); sadly due to our plans we were unable to have dinner, but lunch was very good, as was the breakfast. I had two treatments at the Eden Spa - again, the staff were lovely and the spa is faultless. I wish I’d had longer to enjoy it. We stayed in one of the Mansion House suites which was stunning. The bed was so comfortable I’d have happily stayed there all day! Again, the decor was tasteful and elegant, and we had the added bonus of a balcony overlooking the beautiful grounds. If you get the opportunity to walk around the estate and visit the kitchen garden it is well worth it. I will definitely return, especially as the hotel and spa offer wellbeing retreats and weekends.
